This past Friday night, I found myself in a swanky little corner of Dallas’ trendy Bishop Arts District—at an intimate new book release signing for one of my favorite writers, Brianna Wiest.
The line to the meet-and-greet wrapped around the one story boutique’s parking lot and was filled with fans who were double-fisting copies of books they were hoping to get signed.
As luck would have it, the weather was wonderful and the strawberry margaritas were complimentary.
The vibe was very Dallas being Dallas—but there was also an unpretentious, free-spirited energy dancing through the air.
As we inched closer to the boho-decorated table where Brianna sat, my cheeks warmed with a slight buzz from the tequila.
Once we were finally face-to-face with Queen B, I quickly (and cooly) snapped out of it.
Of course, for anyone familiar with her work, it’s no secret that this woman is stunningly beautiful—and, as it turns out, she’s every bit as captivating in real life.
But what became just as obvious was her down-to-earth humility and open-hearted playfulness.
Right off the bat, I told her Ashlie had a question for her—to which her face lit up and she answered with thoughtful resonance (it was about her Human Design… she’s a projector!).
Without missing a beat, I followed up with a question of my own, asking about her experience with the Enneagram.
The three of us then carried on a short, but sweet, three-minute conversation that had us all belly laughing—and left Brianna blushing as I fist-bumped her goodbye.
(I actually made my crush blush!)
Yes, this writing rockstar may have millions of followers and bestsellers to her name—but what I experienced was someone wanting to be just as human as everyone else standing in that line.
No posturing.
No performance.
No ego.
For those few minutes, it was just three human beings—laughing, connecting, and sharing a fleeting, but beautiful, moment in time.

I had a similar experience with one of my favourite singers yesterday! We were at a smaller venue and she was just so real and so present. She spent the entire concert interacting with the crowd, showering attention on her crew, talking about her hardships. It made me fall in love with her work even more. It's so special when the people we look up to are as incredible in real life as we'd always hoped!!
(And it was Rachel Platten btw...a total badass with the voice of an angel!)
