After tearfully hugging my sister and putting her into a Taxi to the Bangkok airport a few nights ago, I decided to change my ticket and meet her back home for the holidays.
These last 7 months have been some of the most fulfilling, yet challenging, of all my travels.
I may have had more pesky bumps and bruises during this journey than any other before it:
-My mom falling and cracking her head wide open
-Multiple annoying heat rashes
-Covid for the first time
-Multiple ingrown toenails that required “self-surgery”
-Compromised credit card requiring a new one being mailed to Bangkok
-Multiple busted blood vessels in my right eye
-Painful and itchy fungal infection under my right armpit
And, the granddaddy of them all, a MRSA staphylococcus infection that led to my 11 trips to the hospital in Kathmandu.
Needless to say, the visit from my sister was a perfectly timed, and much needed, warm embrace from home. Consequently, my head and heart came to the conclusion that a quick trip back home to hug all my peeps (and Goose) might just be what the doctor ordered.
Truth be told, I’m never ready to leave Thailand—and today is no exception. Part of me knows all too well that being back in the States will immediately have me feeling less ‘alive’ and ‘adventurous.’
However, I also have a few things lingering that this pit-stop will better allow me to take care of in person.
While returning home always offers an interesting dose of reverse culture shock, I’m also feeling unusually excited—and that’s because of YOU and our newly created With Gusto endeavor together.
Rest assured, I have so much great stuff to share—and I’m definitely looking forward to once again having speedy, uninterrupted WiFi (and hot showers).
However, until then, I’m sat on the cusp of this 21-hour journey: Bangkok to Seoul, South Korea—which is a 6 hour flight with a 2 hour layover. Then, a 13.5 hour flight from Seoul to Dallas.
Unfortunately, I’m not someone who can sleep on airplanes, so this piece of the travel-life puzzle is always a bit challenging and exhausting—but just as much part of the adventure.
Wish me luck and I’ll see you guys on the flip-side we call Stateside.

I don’t sleep on airplanes either. It’s always a challenge. And I consider an amount of sleep a win.
The re-entry is WILD. 💚🫠💙
